Thanks Bryan, appreciate it. I think for me its the sheer humanity that he places into each tale. I can imagine myself in this or that situation, no matter how far-fetched his contexts. He also asks many questions typical of the period; what is the nature of the Jamesian unconscious, for example. How far can progress, progress? What is the nth degree of carrying out this or that political program? Wells' concerns appear to remain current, even if his actual writing has a datedness about it.
I've never been a big Wells fan - though I'm not sure why not, as his themes and interests align with many of mine. I'll be checking this out, though! Great article.
